WHO CAN ENTER

Canadian magazines and individuals (writers, creators) are invited to enter the 39th National Magazine Awards competition. Before you submit your work, please read the Eligibility criteria & rules

HOW TO ENTER

All entries must be submitted online. For each entry, a PDF must be uploaded during the online submission process, even if from a digital platform.  

 

For WRITTEN category submissions, upload a PDF of the complete article/submission. PDFs must have a resolution of 200 dpi and be printable on 8.5 X 11” paper. Ensure that all text is no closer than 0.5" to the edge of the page. No double-page spreads. Hard copy only required for Editorial Package.

 

For VISUAL and INTEGRATED category submissions, upload a PDF of the complete article or spread accompanying the visual submission (double-page PDF spread where possible). For Best Single Issue and Art Direction for an Entire Issue, upload a PDF of the issue cover. Tablet Magazine submitters must enter the URL to their iTunes page or app where judges can download the issue to be judged. Hard copy required for Magazine Covers, Best Single Issue and Art Direction of an Entire Issue.

HARD COPIES

Hard copies are required for submissions in the following categories (see detailed instructions below).

  • Editorial Package
  • Magazine Covers
  • Art Direction for an Entire Issue
  • Best Single Issue
  • Magazine of the Year
  • Best Magazine Brand 

 

Hard copies should be packaged with a copy of the Entry Form, and shipped to the NMA office (deliveries accepted between 9 and 5 EST.

WRITTEN

 

Editorial Package submissions must include one (1) set of originals and six (6) sets of photocopies (even if from a digital platform) with the Entry Form clipped on top. Photocopies must be 8.5 x 11". Attach the entry form to the tear sheets. If your submission is from a tablet magazine or magazine website, you still must submit the required photocopies and entry forms.

 

VISUAL

 

Art Direction for an Entire Issue submissions must include four (4) original copies of the issue with a copy of the entry form taped to the back of each issue. If your submission is from a tablet magazine you do not have to submit any hard copies.

 

INTEGRATED 

 

Magazine Covers submissions must include four (4) original, unmounted tear sheets of the cover with a copy of the entry form taped to the back of each. If your submission is from a tablet magazine you do not have to submit any hard copies.

 

Best Single Issue submissions must include four (4) original copies of the issue with a copy of the entry form taped to the back of each issue, as well as four (4) copies of a cover letter clipped inside the cover of each issue. The letter should summarize the goals and achievements of the issue for the judges. If your submission is from a tablet magazine, you do not have to submit any hard copies, but please email your cover letter to staff@magazine-awards.com.

 

SPECIAL

Magazine of the Year submissions must include five (5) sets of any three (3) issues of the magazine, plus five (5) copies of a one-page cover letter, along with a copy of the entry form. The cover letter should a) outline the mandate of the magazine, and b) summarize the achievements of the magazine during the year.

 

Best Magazine Brand submissions must include four (4) copies of a submission package consisting of: 1) A cover letter (maximum two pages) summarizing the strength of the publication’s brand identity against its editorial mandate, and the achievements and innovations during the past year. The cover letter may be the jury’s introduction to your brand, and thus should contain all relevant information on your brand identity and extensions; 2) Any print edition of the magazine from 2015; 3) Any supporting documentation, including links to social media and digital initiatives, event materials, special editions or publications, products, media kits, etc.
